The Savior’s Instructions about the Holy Ghost

Choice 2: John 14:15–17, 26–27; 15:26–27; 16:7–8, 13–14. The Savior’s Instructions about the Holy Ghost
As you study the following verses, make a list of what the Savior taught about (1) what the Holy Ghost does and (2) what disciples must do to receive the Holy Ghost:
John 14:15–17

15 ¶If ye alove me, bkeep my ccommandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you anotheraComforter, that he may babide with you for ever;

The disciples must keep the commandments and in return the Holy Ghost will be with them forever.

John 14:26–27

26 But the aComforterwhich is the bHoly Ghost, whom the Father will send in my cname, he shall dteach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 aPeace I leave with you, my bpeace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be ctroubled, neither let it be afraid.

The Holy Ghost will teach all them all things and help them remember that all disciples be not afraid or troubled

John 15:26–27

26 But when the aComforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall btestify of me:
27 And ye also shall bear awitness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

The Holy Ghost will testify of truth as the disciples exercise their faith.

John 16:7–8
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is aexpedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the bComforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will areprove the world of sin, and ofbrighteousness, and of judgment:

The disciples need to listen to the truth for the Holy Ghost will reprove the world of sin and righteousness and of judgment

John 16:13–14

13 Howbeit when he, the aSpirit of truth, is come, he will bguideyou into all ctruth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will dshewyou things to come.
14 He shall aglorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The Holy Ghost will guide us into all truth and be focused on helping us to see and be ready for things to come.  He will glorify God and help us to become true disciples.

Add to your list above as you study the following resources:
Institute student manual Points to Ponder, “The Holy Ghost Brings Man to His Fullest Potential” (pg. 168) and Institute student manual Points to Ponder, “As a Messenger of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost TeachesFaithful Members” (pg. 168)
Bible Dictionary, “Holy Ghost” (pg. 704)

-The Holy Ghost is adaptive to reach us to the extent that we will allow
-It quickens all the intellectual faculties, increases, enlarges, expands and purifies all the natural passions and affections; and adapts them, by the gift of wisdom, to their lawful use.
-It inspires, develops, cultivates and matures all the fine-toned sympathies, joys, tastes, kindred feelings and affections of our nature.
-It inspires virtue, kindness, goodness, tenderness, gentleness and charity
-It develops beauty of person, form and features.
-In short, it is, as it were, marrow to the bone, joy to the heart, light to the eyes, music to the ears, and life to the whole being.

Review your list of what the Holy Ghost does. Then write responses to the following tasks:
Describe how the Holy Ghost helped the Apostles fulfill their missions after the Savior’s death and resurrection.

The Holy Ghost helped the apostles to fulfill their mission by  inspiring them on topics of who, what, when, where and why. They where most affective when they were listening to the Holy Ghost guiding them and when they were wise enough to heed to it’s promptings

Write a paragraph about a time when the Holy Ghost blessed you in one of the ways you listed above. Give an example of how the Holy Ghost has inspired you.

I can honestly say that I have been blessed by the Holy Ghost because it prompted/ inspired me to transfer colleges to BYU Idaho where I have been blessed to meet and marry my angel of a wife.  I am so grateful for its influence and guidance in my life.

A New Commandment

 John 13:34–35. A New Commandment
1.     According to John 13:34–35, how can others know if we are disciples of Jesus Christ?

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye alove one another; as I have loved you, that ye also blove one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye havealove one to another.

I feel that if we are to become true Disciples of Christ then we are to love everyone we come in contact with exactly how Christ would love them. This includes any and every person on this earth. We are all family and should care about each person we meet and help them with their individual progression just as much as our savior and redeemer would.

2.     List some specific ways a disciple of Jesus Christ might respond in the following situations (in accordance with John 13:34–35):
·       Someone you know is ridiculed or made fun of because of the way he or she dresses.

A disciple of Christ would teach them that cleanliness is next to Godliness and that the only person we should worry about pleasing would be our Heavenly Father.  I would also teach them to forgive and understand that those who ridicule are lacking understanding of a particular gospel principle.

·       You see a new person at church.

We should help make them feel welcome and help them to understand that we are all brothers and sisters.

3.     Ponder the question, “Do people know that I am a disciple of Jesus Christ by the way I treat them?” Select a family member, coworker, or neighbor and make a short list of things you can do during the coming week to show him or her the kind of love the Savior would show. Then follow through with what you wrote down.

I am going to focus on my wife.  I feel that we are so blessed to have each other in our lives but with our busy schedules it can be difficult to demonstrate beyond our normal “I love you” Sentence.  I am going to take my wife to walk around the temple. This is our favorite place to be. I know by doing this that it we, again demonstrate the love we have for each other. We truly love being there.
