Preparing for the Saviors Second Coming

Mark 13; Luke 21: 5-8, Joseph Smith-Matthew. Preparing for the Saviors Second Coming.

1.) Review: Mark 13: 5, 9,23,33,35,37 and identify the words take heed and watch in each verse. List at least three things from this chapter that believers can watch for in order to be prepared to meet the Lord.

Take heed lest anyman deceive you
Take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
Take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Three things from this chapter that believers can watch for would be:

People that will try to deceive, for false Christs and false Prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
In those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

2.) Explain in writing any other additional truths that are taught in the following references about how to prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ.

       Doctrine and Covenants 87:8
       Joseph Smith- Matthew 1:32
       Joseph Smith- Matthew 1:37
       Joseph Smith- Matthew 1:46-50
       Doctrine and Covenants 33:17
       Doctrine and Covenants 45:56-57

Truths on how to prepare from the above verses:

·       Stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come
Be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning, and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom
Avoid abominations of desolation spoken of by Daniel the Prophet
Treasureth up my word, shall not be deceived, for the Son of Man shall come, and he shall send his angels before him with the great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together the remainder of his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Receive the truth, and take the Holy Spirit for your guide, and have not been deceived
Teach others and spread the word: say unto one, I say unto all men; watch, therefore, for you know not at what hour your Lord doth come.

The Rejection of Christ by the Jewish Leaders

The Rejection of Christ by the Jewish Leaders
Matthew 21-22.

I love how God gives us opportunities to be part of bigger and better things.  It is up to us to make the correct choices in order to partake in these opportunities.  The Jewish Leaders of Christ’s day were perfect examples for “what NOT to do”  below discusses their poor choices.

How were the Jewish leaders of Jesus’ day like each of the following:

1)   The fig tree in Matt 21:17-20

Jesus was rejected of the Jewish Leaders just like he was denied fruit from the fig tree. Jesus could see that the tree refused to grow fruit and bless those around that hunger.  Likewise those that refuse to accept the truth refuse to progress and bless others with their progression and are cursed because of it.

2)   The Second son in Matt 21:28-32

They Jewish leaders of Christ’s time were like the second son because the claim that they will go and do the will of God but refuse God’s own son who is doing that which God instructed. The claim they will follow God’s will but do not.

3)   The husbandmen in Matt 21:33-41

They abused and killed those doing the will of God (such as Christ) after they were given so much of God. They were given opportunities to repent but would not. They sought destruction of the Son of God.

4)   The wedding guests and the men without the wedding garment in matt 22:1-14

They refused the blessings of God and the Constant invitation for them to come and be in his presence. They abused the gift and killed his servants that were there to invite them to bigger and better things than what they would allow themselves to know and those that attended were not fit to be there because they failed to prepare themselves. They were cast out for many were called but few were chosen

Earthly and Heavenly Rewards

Choice 1: Matthew 19:16-30; 20:1-16 Earthly and Heavenly Rewards

1

What indications can you find that suggest why the young man decided not to follow the savior?

He was struggling with the idea of selling all that he had in order to follow the savior.

How does Matthew 6:19-24 help explain his choice?

He treasured things of the earth more than he treasured things in heaven. He did not understand that the values of things of heaven are greater because they do not corrupt. They cannot be stolen.  His heart was in the wrong place.

What blessings did the Savior promise to those who make sacrifices to follow Him?

If therefore thine aeye be bsingle, thy whole body shall be full of clight. Essentially they will become prepared to enter into

In order for you to desire to follow Christ you should kneel before God and ask him for his help to overcome your faults that are preventing you from doing so. You should keep the commandments so that the spirit is not offended and can stay with you to.  Be willing to give up things of little or no worth in order to gain the biggest blessings of this life and eternity.  Be meek and humble, even as a little child.

3. We learn that God will treat everyone equally.  Even though some may be or promising stalwart now doesn’t mean that we cannot fall for a time and same with those that were raised without the church.  They can find it and give it there all once they do.  God is no respecter of persons.

It helps converts to realize that everyone will be treated equal and God will give everyone the opportunity to hear and share to gospel.

If I could talk to someone who feels that they are being treated unfairly I would say the quote “ I complained and complained about all the walking until I ran into someone who didn’t have feet” Life is about seeing the bigger picture.  If we do we will understand that everything God does is just and equal.

“The Lord Appointed Other Seventy Also”

“The Lord Appointed Other Seventy Also”
Luke 10:1-24

1.

Jesus Christ was a mission leader.  He knew what needed to be done in order for the gospel to be spread to every kindred tongue and people.
He instructed his Seventy as follows:

Go two by two into every city and place.
Pray the there will be more to labor in this endeavor.
Realize that you are being sent as Lambs among Wolves.
Don’t worry about purse, nor scrip, nor shoes.
Bless each house you enter.
Stay where you are permitted and eat what you are given.
Heal the sick.
Teach them that the Kingdom of God is come nigh unto them.
If they do not receive you go into the streets of the same, voicing warning unto them.
If they hear you, they hear me. If they despiseth you they despiseth me and if they despiseth me then they despiseth God.

When the Seventy returned unto Christ, excited that the had power to cast out the spirit of the devil, Christ said to them:

“Rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”

He also told them how blessed they are to see the things which they have seen for many prophets and kings desire to see them but haven’t.

2.

“We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.”

This article of faith is to help us realize that Christ’s Church are to be organized and that Christ is at the head and the leaders are called by proper authority to administer. We are to go about laboring in the will of God. Missionary work is essential to the plan.  We should go where the people will listen accept what hospitality we are given and teach of the coming of the Kingdom of God and when we do this we will find that devils are subject unto us and we can rejoice for we will see miracles unfold before our eyes. This

3.
Seventy are given the apostolic authority but are not ordained Apostles. They devote their full time to the ministry. They are called to preach the gospel and be especial witnesses of Jesus Christ. They act in the name of the Lord, under the direction of the Twelve, building up the Church and regulating all the affairs of the same in all nations. Choose other seventy, even seven times seventy, if the labor requires it. They are instituted for traveling elders to bear record of my name in the entire world.
