“The Lord Appointed Other Seventy Also”

“The Lord Appointed Other Seventy Also”
Luke 10:1-24

1.

Jesus Christ was a mission leader.  He knew what needed to be done in order for the gospel to be spread to every kindred tongue and people.
He instructed his Seventy as follows:

Go two by two into every city and place.
Pray the there will be more to labor in this endeavor.
Realize that you are being sent as Lambs among Wolves.
Don’t worry about purse, nor scrip, nor shoes.
Bless each house you enter.
Stay where you are permitted and eat what you are given.
Heal the sick.
Teach them that the Kingdom of God is come nigh unto them.
If they do not receive you go into the streets of the same, voicing warning unto them.
If they hear you, they hear me. If they despiseth you they despiseth me and if they despiseth me then they despiseth God.

When the Seventy returned unto Christ, excited that the had power to cast out the spirit of the devil, Christ said to them:

“Rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”

He also told them how blessed they are to see the things which they have seen for many prophets and kings desire to see them but haven’t.

2.

“We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.”

This article of faith is to help us realize that Christ’s Church are to be organized and that Christ is at the head and the leaders are called by proper authority to administer. We are to go about laboring in the will of God. Missionary work is essential to the plan.  We should go where the people will listen accept what hospitality we are given and teach of the coming of the Kingdom of God and when we do this we will find that devils are subject unto us and we can rejoice for we will see miracles unfold before our eyes. Seventy are given the apostolic authority but are not ordained Apostles. They devote their full time to the ministry. They are called to preach the gospel and be especial witnesses of Jesus Christ. They act in the name of the Lord, under the direction of the Twelve, building up the Church and regulating all the affairs of the same in all nations. Choose other seventy, even seven times seventy, if the labor requires it. They are instituted for traveling elders to bear record of my name in the entire world.
